(PAYSON, Ariz.) Gilbert Christian golf out-shot Payson, Show Low, and Miami at the Rim Golf Club on Wednesday, edging Payson by a stroke to win the four-team showdown. Individually, the Knights were equally impressive, with four players earning top-10 honors on the day.
Junior
Callaway Conkright led the charge, finishing third overall after shooting seven over par 36 on the front of the challenging Payson course. Sophomore
Elese Lambeth also excelled, putting the pressure on the top-four boys with her eight over par performance and placing fifth in the 28-athlete field. Lambeth was the lowest scoring female golfer in the match.
Included the top-10 were sophomore
Graeson Conkright and senior
Brody Moore, who completed the course in seventh and tenth, respectfully. Junior
Luke Barton rounded out the Knights' scorers, in fifteenth overall.
Gilbert Christian is currently ranked fifth in the state among AIA Division III golf teams.
Callaway Conkright, for his part, is seated at No. 4 in the Division III individual standings, while his younger brother
Graeson Conkright, holds the No. 28 spot. On the girls' side, Lambeth owns bragging rights at number 12.
Next up for the Knights is a three-way match versus ALA-Queen Creek and San Tan Charter. Competition is scheduled for Thursday, April 10th (3:30pm) at Superstition Springs Golf Club.
