(QUEEN CREEK, Ariz.) The Gilbert Christian girls tennis team delivered a strong performance on Tuesday, defeating Benjamin Franklin 7-2 in an important sectional matchup at Mansel Carter Oasis Park.
The Knights secured four key wins in singles play to set the tone early. Senior
Sophia Kiesow led the way with a decisive 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 2. Sophomore
Madeline Branton followed with a steady 6-3, 6-3 win in the fours pairing, while junior
Gwyneth Sovereign tacked on a 6-3, 6-4 result in the fives showdown. At No. 6, senior
Ava Good was in control, leading 6-4, 3-2 when play concluded.
Gilbert Christian then sealed the team victory with a dominant showing in doubles, sweeping all three flights. The No. 1 pairing of senior
Kirby Bogen and junior
Lauren Kheshvadjian earned an 8-4 win, while the veteran twos duo, Kiesow and
Hailey Fincher, put on a master class with in an 8-1 victory over their Chargers' counterparts. Sovereign and senior
Emmalyse Henry capped the sweep with an 8-4 win at No. 3.
With the triumph, the Knights remain undefeated in Section IV play and move to 2-1 overall, continuing to build momentum behind a balanced lineup and strong doubles play. Gilbert Christian's next home match is scheduled for Thursday, March 26 (3:00pm) versus Florence. The Knights' home contests are played at Gene Autry Sports Complex.
