(TUSCON, Ariz.) The Gilbert Christian girls' tennis team completed its 2024 campaign with a 5-2 loss at Pusch Ridge in the first round of the state tournament on Tuesday afternoon. The Knights finish the season at 8-4 overall.

Freshman Lauren Kheshvadjian won both of her matches on the day, defeating fellow underclassman Micaela Nagel 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 3 singles' pairing to give the Knights a point. Kheshvadjian and her partner, junior Megan Russell, also won their doubles' showdown, but the Lions had already claimed victory in the contest.

Gilbert Christian's second point of the match was earned by sophomore Kirby Bogen, who took down Pusch Ridge's No. 6 Sophia Barnett, 6-4, 6-2.

Several Knights were selected to compete in the individual portion of the AIA Girls Tennis State

Championships, which will begin next week. Junior Kendall Hayes and Russell will participate as a doubles' squad, where they will be joined by Bogen and sophomore Hailey Fincher. Kheshvadjian will compete for the Knights in singles.
