(FLORENCE, Ariz.) Gilbert Christian wrapped a successful week on the court with a 9-0 win over Florence High School on Thursday in Division III, Section IV girls tennis action. The Knights were also victorious earlier in the week at Vista Grande, managing a 6-3 takedown of the Spartans to move to 3-1 on the season.
"Our team was dominant in the Florence match this week," Head Coach Michele Miller said. "I thought that the girls did a great job implementing their strategies and showcasing their skills while on court."
The Knights' six singles points came from No. 6
Kirby Bogen (6-1, 6-3), No. 5
Sophia Kiesow (6-0, 6-1), No. 4
Hailey Fincher (6-2, 6-1), No. 3
Lauren Kheshvadjian (6-1, 6-0), No. 2
Kendall Hayes (6-1, 6-2), and No. 1
Megan Russell (6-0, 4-6, 11-9).
All three of the GCHS doubles' matches were one-sided, with final tallies of 8-1.
The Vista Grande affair featured more competitive singles play, and another sweep of the doubles points.
Hayes earned a win in the twos pairing, with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over the Spartans' Karla Sepulveda, while Kiesow and Bogen picked up points for the Knights at number four and number five, respectively, with identical 6-2, 6-4 scores.
Gilbert Christian's next match is scheduled for Tuesday, April 1st at Coolidge High. The sectional showdown is slated to begin at 3:30pm.
