(MESA Ariz.) Girls' tennis was victorious in its last regular season match of 2024, besting Miami High School by a final tally of 8-1. The Knights swept doubles' play and collected wins in all but one of the singles' flights.

No. 13 Gilbert Christian finishes the year at 8-4 overall (5-1 Division III, Section IV). The Knights have won four-straight matches heading into the 2024 AIA Girls Tennis Championships.

"Kendall Hayes came back from being down in the first set to dominate the second set and win the third set tie break by a large margin," Head Coach Michele Miller said. "She was a true leader on the court, showing her teammates how to dig deep and give it her all."

Hayes played in the number one spot for GCHS against Miami's AnnMary Terrence. Terrence took the opener 6-2, but Hayes stayed focused, collecting a 6-3 victory in the second set before running away with tie-breaker, 10-4.

Freshman Lauren Kheshvadjian made easy work of her challenger at number three, taking down Jillian Lee 6-0, 6-1. The fourth pairing was more of the same, as sophomore Sophia Kiesow toppled her Miami counterpart 6-2, 6-2.

No. 5 Hailey Fincher followed suit as she recorded a one-sided 6-1, 6-1 point, before sophomore Kirby Bogen took the court and zeroed junior Mira Weber 6-0, 6-0 in the sixth flight.

The Knights are scheduled to play in the first round of the state tournament next week against Pusch Ridge. The match is slated for 3:00pm on April 23rd at the Hilton El Conquistador in Tucson.
