(GILBERT, Ariz.) The Gilbert Christian flag football team celebrated Senior Night in dominant fashion, blanking Apache Junction 47-0 on Monday evening. Seven different players found the end zone as the Knights overwhelmed the Prospectors with relentless defense, racking up 17 sacks and eight interceptions.
Senior
Julie Villegas led the way with three picks, while classmates Carolena Villegas and
Makayla Petrey each scored touchdowns in their final regular-season home game. The senior trio also combined for five of the team's 10 tackles.
Freshman standout
Alexa Enman continued her all-around excellence—rushing for a touchdown, throwing another, adding four sacks, and snagging an interception. Also adding four sacks, was freshman Devon Jovanovski.
With the decisive win, Gilbert Christian improves to 9-1 overall. The Knights close out the regular season next week, facing Leading Edge Academy- Gilbert on Monday Nov. 3rd at Arizona Athletic Grounds (Field 20) before a pivotal match-up at No. 2 Scottsdale Christian (11-0) on Wednesday, Nov. 5th.
