(GILBERT, Ariz.) Gilbert Christian's first-year flag football program looked anything but new on Thursday, rolling past ALA-Ironwood 21-0 to notch its eighth straight win- proving again why the Knights are among the 3A conference's top contenders.
Gilbert Christian (8-1) hasn't lost since its Sept. 16th opener against undefeated No. 1 Heritage Academy Laveen (9-0).
Sophomore
Mackenzie Henderson was unstoppable in the affair, taking two interceptions to the house and nearly adding another, getting her hands on a third ball which she ultimately batted down to stop the Warriors' progression up the field.
The Knights' final score came in the fourth quarter, when junior
Maddy Willms, a track and field standout, showed her speed on an 85-yard sprint past the entire Warriors' defense.
Junior
Meredith Johnson continued to kick with power and consistency, converting all three of her extra point attempts, while also punting and playing on both sides of the ball for Head Coach Corey Enman.
Gilbert Christian's defense set the tone early, shutting down any offensive rhythm from the Warriors. Junior
Riley Bublitz and freshman
Devan Jovanovski rushed ALA's quarterback throughout the game, each recording sacks for the Knights. Sophomore
Adriana Vranicic contributed on both sides of the ball, providing steady play and energy.
Quarterback
Alyssa Cervantez (Jr.) looked sharp the pocket, efficiently managing the Knights' fast paced offense. Freshman
Alexa Enman continued to impress with her all-around playmaking ability, constantly drawing defensive attention and creating space for her teammates on and off of the ball.
Gilbert Christian returns to action on Monday, October 27th
at 7:00pm, hosting regional opponent Apache Junction in the final home game of the 2025 regular season. Prior to the contest, the program will recognize its seniors and their families.
