(MESA, Ariz.) Gilbert Christian girls' tennis split its match-ups this week, defeating Florence 9-0 in sectional play, before falling to Chandler Prep 8-1. The team is currently ranked 14th among Division III opponents, and third in Section IV.
The Knights' record sits at 4-3 on the year.
"Yesterday's match against Chandler Prep was a battle for us," Head Coach Michele Miller said. "We had success in one of our doubles' matches, so a big congratulations to Kirby Bogen and Hailey Fincher! Ava Good, Jacklyn Korb, Olivia Larson, Scarlett Carr, Allie Landis, and Bella Emig were able to compete and won all of their exhibition matches."
Bogen and Fincher won the third doubles' pairing, 8-4, to collect a point for GCHS against the Titans.
The squad's March 28th showing was a different story, as the Knights swept the Gophers on every court, while displaying extraordinary sportsmanship as Devoney Lloyd, Korb, and Good stepped in and helped a Florence competitor get a chance to play doubles by pairing up with her.
"Three of our players demonstrated the light of Christ in this match," Miller said. "They were extremely kind and encouraging to this new player of tennis as they played alongside her."
The Knights were nearly perfect in the affair, only allowing two total set points through nine match-ups.
Gilbert Christian has several upcoming showdowns this weekend, starting with a 2:30pm contest against Veritas Prep at Indian School Park. The team has a turnaround, as it is also scheduled to play on Saturday (10:00am) at Queen Creek High School against Crismon.
