(GILBERT, Ariz.) Boys volleyball took down Benjamin Franklin (12-2) and Gilbert Classical (2-10) in back-to-back matches this week, to move to 6-8 on the year. The Knights are on a hot streak, having won four-straight regular season matches.
Both of the victories were sweeps, as Gilbert Christian persevered to upset the third-ranked Chargers (25-18, 25-17, 25-21), before besting GCA (25-6, 25-17, 25-18).
"The match against Ben Franklin was a great defensive showing for us, from the block, to the back-line," Head Coach Michelle Petrey said. "Our JV team also picked up a win tonight in three sets, and all 16 players really impressed me."
Sophomore Malachi Myers took control offensively, hitting .440 through three sets to post a team-high 14 kills against BFHS. The usual suspects, senior Owen Gehr and junior Cole Goforth, contributed to the attack with nine and seven putdowns, respectively, for the Knights.
Gehr's defensive performance was tops on the day, as he tallied 11 digs on the backline, though he was aided by an all-around stellar effort from junior Talon Heafey, senior Colton McWilliams and Goforth, who frustrated the Ben Franklin attack as they combined for 16 digs.
The Chargers also struggled with senior Nate Dickinson's on-point service game, leading to a match-best four aces for Dickinson. Dickinson was everywhere for Gilbert Christian, dishing out 17 assists and recording five of his own digs as the Knights handed Ben Franklin its second loss of the season.
Next on the docket for GCHS is a regional match-up on the road against Leading Edge Academy- Gilbert. The match is scheduled for 5:30pm on April 16th.
