(GILBERT, Ariz.) Gilbert Christian is thrilled to announce Taylor Van Winkle as the new head coach of the Knights' boys volleyball program. Van Winkle steps into the role after three seasons on the GCHS coaching staff, where she led the JV squad and assisted with varsity.

The Knights are coming off an 11-7 campaign, capped by a state quarterfinal appearance. With a strong core of returning players, Van Winkle's energy and insight arrive at the perfect time.

"I'm excited to lead the program and bring both experience and passion to our team," Van Winkle said. "My coaching philosophy is rooted in empowering athletes to grow in faith, character, and skill, and in creating a culture centered on discipline, respect, teamwork, and a lasting love for the game."

Van Winkle began coaching in 2020 and has a proven track record of developing young athletes. In addition to her years at Gilbert Christian, she serves as the head coach for the Campo Verde freshman girls' team, and has guided youth players at Storm Elite Volleyball Club as well as Val Vista Academy.

As a player, Van Winkle competed at both the collegiate and high school levels in indoor and beach volleyball. A two-year captain at Park University-Gilbert (2023-2025), she excelled as an outside hitter, defensive specialist, and libero, earning honors such as GSAC Defensive Player of the Week and ACCAC Honorable Mention.

"Coach Van Winkle brings a unique combination of high-level playing experience and a deep understanding of what motivates athletes today," Athletic Director Mark Duitsman said. "Her passion for both the sport and the spiritual development of our students makes her an ideal fit for the Knights."

Van Winkle holds a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from Park University and an Associate of Arts in Business Management from Mesa Community College.

With her youthful energy and Christ-centered approach, Van Winkle is eager to elevate the program and inspire her athletes.

"I'm committed to helping each player reach their full potential, develop strong character, and embrace the values of community, leadership, and Christ-centered excellence as we build this program together," she said.
