(QUEEN CREEK, Ariz.) Gilbert Christian finished the regular season with a win at San Tan Foothills on Thursday evening, trouncing the Sabercats 66-46 in regional boys' basketball action.
The Knights (14-4) are ranked second in the state (3A) heading into playoffs.
"We had a great start to the game and jumped out to an early lead," Head Coach Jason Pasquariello said. "Overall, I thought we played well. We did get a little out of rhythm for small stretches, which needs to be limited more. It was great to see Caleb get going especially after his injury. When he is scoring, it is a definite boost for us. Keon and Lopemi gave us solid double-doubles in this game. We had a really good season and I'm very proud of all that the guys have accomplished both individually, and collectively. We are clinging to our team motto: James 1:6, No Doubts!"
Just four Knights scored in the affair. Senior Keon Talgo kept his hot streak going, leading the team with a 21-point, 10-rebound double-double. Lopemi Omole followed suit with one of his own, scoring 18, while grabbing a team-high 14 boards.
Senior Caleb Schinker went 4-for-6 from three-point land to register 15 points for Gilbert Christian. He also came up with five steals, to lead all players.
Representing for the junior class, was Jace Olson. Olson posted 12 points, four rebounds and a game-best five assists.
The 2023-24 AIA Boys' Basketball State Championship Tournament playoff bracket will be released on Saturday, February 10th.
