(WADDELL, Ariz.) Gilbert Christian launched its 2025 season in impressive fashion Thursday night, powering past ALA West Foothills 85-61 on the road.

The Knights' defense was the defining factor, generating an outstanding 23 steals to control the pace from start to finish. Senior Kamari Stanbury led the effort with seven, reinforcing his knack for being in the right place at the right time, after a football campaign which also saw him lead the conference in interceptions. Sophomores Colin Burke and Pierson Scott were also disruptive, adding four apiece, while freshman Trey Cicerelli made an immediate impact with five steals of his own in his varsity debut.

Senior Taylor Abrahamson delivered a dynamic all-around performance on the night, knocking down a trio of threes for 11 points, dishing four assists, and securing 10 rebounds en route to his first double-double of the year. Burke opened his sophomore season with a statement, dropping a game-high 23 points. Stanbury, for his part, paired his elite defensive showing with 22 points for the Knights. Newcomer Hudson Noll added 10, showcasing poise and confidence in his first game with the program.

"Putting up 85 in the opener while still identifying plenty of room for growth underscores the potential of this roster," Head Coach Jason Pasquariello said. "Our line-up is full of aggressive, high-motor defenders who embrace competition. Our motto this year is 'Earn Everything,' and this game demonstrated that mentality. The early defensive buy-in is clear, and the offensive chemistry continues to build with each possession."

Gilbert Christian is back in action over break, playing in the Ben Franklin Thanksgiving Classic. The Knights will resume regular season play at home on December 2nd against Seton Classic (7:00pm).
