(CHANDLER, Ariz.) Gilbert Christian overcame a 27-26 halftime deficit to defeat Seton Catholic 57-50 on the road Tuesday. The Knights' defense reigned in the affair, recording 11 deflections, 14 steals, 20 points in transition, and 22 points off of the Sentinels' 22 turnovers.
"Our defensive effort carried us in this one," Head Coach Jason Pasquariello said. "In a game where we did not shoot the ball particularly well, we were able up the intensity in other categories and find a way to win. Credit to Seton, they were a well-coached, scrappy team that didn't quit. I don't think we played our best, but I was pleased with how we responded to some adversity, especially on the defensive end in the second half."
Senior Jace Olson dropped 20 points and six rebounds in the game, going 7-for-7 from the charity stripe. Through three contests, Olson has maintained a 96 percent free throw average (24-out-of-25).
With 14 points, eight rebounds, four steals and two assists, senior Owen Fermoyle once again did it all for the Knights, while converting all four of his free throw attempts.
Junior Taylor Abrahamson suited up for his first contest of the season, making an immediate impact as he scored nine points on 3-for-4 shooting in just 12 minutes for the Knights. Abrahamson and freshman Colin Burke registered three steals apiece in the victory. Burke also logged seven points of his own, and a pair of assists for the Knights.
Senior Logan Lucero led all players with four assists.
With the win, the Knights improve to 3-0.
Gilbert Christian travels to Tucson on Friday for a 7:00pm standoff with Pusch Ridge (3-0). The Knights are back on their home court Tuesday, December 10th (7:00pm) against Bourgade Catholic (2-0).
