(GILBERT, Ariz.) Senior
Lopemi Omole's 14-point, 12-rebound double-double propelled Gilbert Christian past Benjamin Franklin, 63-51, in Tuesday's 3A South Central regional showdown. The Knights are unbeaten in league play (4-0) and sit a 9-3 on the year.
Omole also recorded five steals in the contest.
"At times we looked really good, and at times we really need to work on our execution," Head Coach
Jason Pasquariello said. "Our defense has gotten better, our rotations are more consistent and the on-court communication is much improved from the beginning of the year. Offensively, we know that we can get going in transition, and now we need to focus on late game execution. We continue to get good scoring from Keon, Jace and Lopemi. Having Caleb get into double figures was a good boost as well. The guys coming off the bench- Owen, Logan and Tyler, all gave great minutes and really got after it on the defensive side. As we get into the last two weeks of the season, we continue with our theme for the season: James 1:6 No Doubts!"
The Knights won the first three quarters and never trailed, but allowed the Chargers to steal the final period 20-17.
Four players posted double-figures for Gilbert Christian. Senior
Keon Talgo's line included, 14 points, four rebounds, three blocks and two assists, while junior
Jace Olson finished with 14 points, eight boards and four assists for the Knights.
Senior
Caleb Schinker brought heaps of energy to the floor, as he scored 10 points and grabbed three steals in 21 minutes of action.
The Knights travel to Scottsdale Christian on January 25th for a 7:00pm game. The Eagles are 5-5 overall.
