(GILBERT, Ariz.) The first-ranked Gilbert Christian boys' soccer team added another shutout victory to its list of accomplishments on Wednesday, defeating No. 15 Florence 8-0 via mercy rule. The Knights are 7-0 (3-0 3A East) on the year.
Defensively, GCHS was untouchable, as senior Antonio Lopez, junior Brody Moore, senior Jordan Vasquez and junior Maccoy Villone not only held the Gophers scoreless, but did not allow a shot on goal in the contest.
The Knights got a pair of first half scores from senior Sam Cavinder and another from senior Nate Dickinson to take a 3-0 lead into the locker room at the break.
Whatever Head Coach Devon Dickinson said during his halftime speech dialed in the team even more, as Gilbert Christian scored five in the subsequent 20 minutes, forcing the referees to call the game early.
The Knights' offense came from all around, with goals and assists in abundance from Cavinder, Dickinson, Moore, Lopez, senior Kaleb Powell, sophomore Will Polillo, sophomore Noah Cooper and junior TK Reesing.
Reesing's impressive assist came in his debut as a Knight.
Gilbert Christian is back in action for its third and final match of the week on Friday, January 12th. The Knights are slated to host Crismon, with kickoff scheduled for 4:00pm.
