GCHS Takes Down ALA-Ironwood

Well-Rounded, Team Effort For Boys' Hoops

(GILBERT, Ariz.) The Gilbert Christian boys' basketball team battled to secure an important win at ALA-Ironwood on Tuesday evening. Senior Keon Talgo led the Knights in scoring, with a season-high 31, while his classmate, Lopemi Omole, recorded a massive double-double, registering 18 points and grabbing 21 rebounds.

Omole also created havoc on the defensive end, with seven blocked shots.

"Overall, this was a great team win," Head Coach Jason Pasquariello said. "We are still maturing and growing as a unit and fortunately, we were able to close it out in the end. I have to hand it to ALA-Ironwood, they never quit and I was impressed with how quickly they could put points on the board when given an opportunity. Our two biggest issues were turnovers and fouls and we are going to need to limit those in big games moving forward."

Junior Jace Olson and sophomore Kamari Stanbury put nine and eight on the scoreboard, respectively, for the Knights, while juniors Logan Lucero and Owen Fermoyle chipped in five apiece. Fermoyle also grabbed five off of the glass, garnered two steals and took a pair of charges in the game. Junior Tyler Burr led GCHS in the assist column, with four, while coming up with three rebounds and three steals.

"Owen and Tyler made some key plays for us tonight," Pasquariello said. "Owen was excellent in help-side defense, and the charges that he drew got some of Ironwood's best players in foul trouble. Kamari Stanbury really dictated the tempo for us. He was in attack mode on both sides of the ball. He finished at the rim and he was causing some obvious headaches for their ball handlers."

Northwest Christian (6-1) is next on the docket for Gilbert Christian. The home match-up is scheduled for Thursday, January 11th at 7:00pm. The Knights are at GCHS again on Saturday, January 13th, where they will play host to crosstown rival Valley Christian.
