(CASA GRANDE, Ariz.) Gilbert Christian's swim teams dove into their respective competitive seasons on Thursday afternoon, taking on Marana and Casa Grande on the road. The talent-filled Knights' girls team came away with first place bragging rights, scoring 80 on the day, while the small but mighty boys team grabbed second place with 45 points.

On the girls' side, Marana placed second with 75 points, while Casa Grande picked up 11. For the boys, Marana's team took the crown with a notable 98-point performance.

The GCHS girls won seven of eight individual events in the meet. Brooke Horton dominated the freestyle races, garnering victories in the 200 and 500, while Ana Johnson swam away with two of her own, the 100-Free and the 100-Back. The remaining three first-place wins went to Kambry Tutty in the 100-Breast, Kalia Numeron in the 200-IM, and Mileigh Allan in the 50-Free.

The boys managed to score an impressive 45 points, despite only having seven swimmers participate. Kyler Tolson triumphed in the 200-IM to collect his first big win of the season, and Austin Josephson followed suit with an imposing win of his own in the 200-Free.

"We had a fantastic first meet today," Head Coach Melody Pinkerton said. "The girls team swam with 16-strong, and the boys that we had really competed in order to score as many points as they did. In total, 84 percent of the team put some points on the board today."

Swim returns to competition on September 14th at Florence High School (4:00pm). The team is also scheduled to travel to Canyon Del Oro for a meet on September 16th.
