(PHOENIX) The Gilbert Christian Swim Team continued its strong start to the season on Tuesday, competing in a quad meet against Phoenix Country Day School, Arcadia, and Chandler Prep at PCDS. The Knights turned in a number of impressive performances, with both individual highlights and team relay victories fueling their momentum.
On the boy's side, the Knights scored a solid 10 points, while competing with limited swimmers. Senior leader
Kyler Tolson posted two runner-up finishes, in the 100 Freestyle and 100 Breaststroke, while his brother, freshman
Teagan Tolson, also touched second in the 200 Freestyle.
The GCHS girls continued to show depth in the meet, finishing second overall in the team standings. Newcomer
Aria Fitzpatrick claimed victory in the 500 Freestyle, while senior
Addison Goodwin powered a win of her own in the 100 Breaststroke. Together with teammates
Mackenna Bloom,
Jacklyn Korb,
Brooke Horton, and
Claire Horton, the Knights also captured two of three relay events in the affair.
This year's swim squad has already made its mark in the record books. Bloom, a freshman, has lowered the school record in the 500 Freestyle twice this season, with more records well within reach for her and her teammates as the season progresses.
The Knights are looking competitive heading into November's state meet, with nine athletes already having secured qualifying times:
Boys-
Kyler Tolson
Teagan Tolson
Girls-
Mackenna Bloom
Peyton Bloom
Olivia Bracke
Aria Fitzpatrick
Addison Goodwin
Claire Horton
Brooke Horton
Gilbert Christian now turns its focus to continued improvement in preparation for championship season, including participating in a pair of approved qualifiers, on October 9th (Desert Mountain Invite, Cactus Pool) and on October 21st (Charger Invite, McClintock Pool).
