Big Win for Boys Soccer

Knights Post 9-0 Shutout at Scottsdale Christian

12/6/2023 2:38:00 PM

(SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.) Boys soccer kicked off its 2023-24 campaign with a 9-0 shutout at Scottsdale Christian Academy. The hard-nosed Knights have not allowed a regular season goal since last January, and add to their stellar defensive reputation with another 'clean sheet' to start the year.

Three players, freshman Kaden White, sophomore Noah Collier, and senior Kaleb Powell, combined to score all nine of Gilbert Christian's goals.

"We have a lot of offensive weapons," Head Coach Devon Dickinson said. "When you have a lot of threats, it makes you difficult to defend. When we play unselfishly, we are very good. That was the case in this game. The team moved the ball well, and we had very thoughtful attacks. Goals are scored when everyone on the field does their job, and we were able to score because we had quality finishing, we won tackles, and we filled space, which allows the offense and defense to work together."

Senior Sam Cavinder, sophomore Noah Cooper, senior Jordan Vasquez, junior Brody Moore and Powell all set their teammates up for success in the match, tallying assists with selfless play as the Knights cruised to victory.

The defense allowed less than three shots on goal in the mercy-ruled contest.

"Overall this was a really good first game for us," Dickinson said. "We saw several areas that we need to focus on moving forward, in order to get to where we want to be. We have such a talented team, and we want to make sure that everyone stays focused on the statistic that matters, which is the win and loss column."

The Knights return home this Friday, December 8th for match-up against a talented Trivium Prep squad. The home opener is scheduled to begin at 4:00pm.
