(GILBERT, Ariz.) Boys soccer posted an exciting 3-1 victory on its home turf Monday, defeating Northwest Christian 3-1 in regulation. With the win, the Knights move to 3-0 on the season.

The loss was Northwest Christian's first of the year. The Crusaders had not allowed a goal prior to the contest.

"This game was last year's second-place team versus the third-place team," Head Coach Devon Dickinson said. "We are very pleased with the entire team's performance, as the midfield literally won every 50/50 ball. We frustrated NWC and prohibited them from ever having a thoughtful attack. Our offense was simply relentless, peppering the goal, shot after shot, from the very beginning. I can't say enough about our defense, which ruthlessly defended one of the best attackers in the game. We did exactly what we needed to do, playing unselfish team soccer, with non-stop intensity."

Senior Sam Cavinder picked up where he left off last week, scoring the Knights' first goal in the opening minute of the match to give Gilbert Christian some early breathing room. At the 24-minute mark, senior Kaleb Powell struck again, punting another into the back of the net to secure a comfortable 2-0 lead for GCHS at the half.

After the break, Northwest Christian managed to light up its side of the scoreboard, bringing it within one, but junior Brody Moore answered with a late goal of his own, putting the game out of reach for the Crusaders.

"I feel like we are finally figuring out our lineup and how to play together," Powell said. "We started playing more relaxed and intentional soccer. You get goals when you stop forcing it up the field. We have been finding each other, and connecting with passes, which opens up better scoring opportunities."

The Knights are back in action this Friday, December 15th at home against Glendale Prep. The varsity boys game is scheduled for 5:00pm.
