(GILBERT, Ariz.) The Gilbert Christian girls soccer team delivered a dominant performance at home on January 6, rolling past Scottsdale Christian Academy 8-0 via mercy rule to remain unbeaten (4-0) on the season.
The Knights set the tone early, controlling the ball more often than not before finding the back of the net midway through the first half to take a 1-0 lead over the 2A Eagles.
At the 23:38 mark, senior
Amber Peterson set the Knights up for success, delivering a perfectly placed ball off a corner kick that was deflected to the weak side, where sophomore
Mackenzie Henderson was waiting. Henderson capitalized, finishing cleanly to give Gilbert Christian the slight edge.
Just two minutes later, sophomore
Brinkley Stansberry doubled the advantage. Breaking free up the middle at 21:17, Stansberry beat both the Eagles' centerback and goalkeeper, blasting a shot into the empty net to stretch the margin to 2-0.
The Knights weren't done. With 8:56 remaining in the half, freshman
Brooke Cochran stunned the Eagles with a highlight-reel goal, launching a soaring 30-yard strike that arced perfectly over the goalkeeper's head and into the back of the net, pushing the lead to 3-0 heading into the break.
Gilbert Christian continued to apply offensive pressure in the second half. Sophomore
Kelsey Peterson served as the catalyst for the Knights' fourth goal, finding Stansberry open on the outside, where she struck the net again, further tilting momentum in favor of the home squad.
At 33:28, freshman
Leila Evans showed maturity under pressure, converting a penalty kick to make it 5-0. The Knights added another at 22:15 after relentless offensive pressure forced a defensive breakdown, allowing K. Peterson to pounce on a loose ball in the box and sink one of her own for a 6-0 GCHS advantage.
Junior
Riley Bublitz added to the rout at 10:46, winning another loose-ball battle and finishing to make it 7-0. Not two minutes later, at 8:57, Stansberry completed her impressive hat trick to seal the 8-0 mercy-rule victory.
Gilbert Christian has not allowed a goal in 2025-26, out-scoring challengers 37-0 through four matches.
The Knights are scheduled to play four straight road contests, beginning with a trip to ALA-West Foothills on January 12th for a regional showdown against the Guardians. Kickoff is slated for 7:00pm. Gilbert Christian will return home later in the month, on January 28th, for a 4:00pm showdown with Parker.
