(CHANDLER, Ariz.) Gilbert Christian track and field's unrelenting pursuit of excellence continued at the Seton Catholic Last Chance Qualifier this week, as 18 personal records were added to the team's towering season total. The girls 4x400 relay (Mila Russo, Megan Collard, Ryley Nelson, Addison Bisceglie) blew its own school record (4:09.06) out of the water, and Bisceglie raced her way to an individual all-time GCHS best in the 1600 meters (5:12.20).
Bisceglie also set a PR in the 800-meters (2:17.56), where she crossed the finish line in second place overall.
The boys' 4x400 relay (Kai Ahlman, Rydan Barth, Josh Rich, Kamari Stanbury), which placed second overall in the meet, came within a second (3:29.42) of setting its own school record for the Knights.
"It is inspiring to see the results of all of our time and hard work on the track pay off," Head Coach Amy Ford said. "We had high expectations for these athletes and they are reaching them. I especially love their support of each other. We were almost disqualified yesterday because so many of our athletes were cheering on the sidelines. It's exciting to see the team so invested in each other's success."
Freshman Kodi Bell was among the athletes to score a personal record on the day, as she claimed first place with her 11:58.22 time in the 3200-meter race.
Freshman Addie Hansen set three PRs in the meet, finishing fourth with her 4-08 high jump, and 17th with her 14-05.50 long jump. She also ran her best 300-hurdles race of the year in 53:08.
Senior Gabrielle Figaro's 15-10 long jump PR effort landed her in third for the GCHS girls.
The boys' triple jumpers had success in their flights, as Maccoy Villone earned a PR and fourth place bragging rights with his 39-06.50 jump, while Joe Kim set a career-best 37-02.50 for the Knights.
Gilbert Christian has one final chance to add athletes to its state roster this Thursday at Phoenix Christian.
