(GILBERT, Ariz.) Gilbert Christian softball wrapped up its season on Monday evening, honoring four seniors who have contributed significantly to the fledgling program's growth. Senior
Ellie Hommel knew the day was for her and performed as such, going two-for-three with three runs batted in and two runs scored in her final high school game.
Seniors
Jaidyn Wilson and
Abby Goble also collected hits in the affair.
The program recognized Hommel, Wilson, Goble,
Bella Grassel and their collective families prior to the Knights' game against Globe.
The Tigers ultimately won 11-7, but GCHS never gave up, rallying with a three-run sixth inning to bring the contest within reach.
Catcher
Maddy Harmon drove in a pair of runs on the day, while hitting two doubles for the Knights. Harmon batted .600 through 19 games in her freshman campaign, going 24-for-40 with 15 doubles on the year. She also stole a team-leading 21 bases.
Softball, which has only been a Gilbert Christian sport for two seasons, has made great strides in 2024, and has a bright future ahead.
