(GILBERT, Ariz.) Meredith Whitehurst tossed a no-hitter on Friday as Gilbert Christian tallied its fourth win of the season. The freshman ace was on fire, recording 10 strikeouts in four innings as the Knights mercy-ruled ALA-Anthem South 20-0 on the road. On offense, Whitehurst reached base three times, walking twice and being hit by a pitch to post an rbi and two runs scored on the day.
Freshman Addie Howell had a break-out day at the plate for GCHS, leading the squad with a trio of hits and going three-for-three with a walk and a pair of runs batted in. She was also responsible for scoring two of Gilbert Christian's runs, and stealing a base in the contest.
Also hitting 1.000 in the affair, were junior Kylee Olinger and freshman Maddy Harmon. Olinger went two-for-two, while Harmon walked three times and collected a double in her fourth appearance.
Displaying the squad's bright future with her team-leading three rbi was another freshman, and another Addie, Addie Colelli, who went one-for-two in the game. Colelli drew a pair of walks and scored twice in the win.
The Knights amassed 14 walks and were hit by seven pitches. Sophomore Devin Vanni took the brunt of it, toughing it out as she was hit twice by the Titans' pitching staff. Vanni made ALAAS pay once on base, tallying a pair of steals and scoring three times for Gilbert Christian.
