(YUMA, Ariz.) Reigning 3A State Champion Gilbert Christian mercy-ruled Yuma Catholic 10-2 on the road in Monday's season opener. The Knights got four goals from senior Caprice Chiuchiolo's haul in the lopsided victory, and a hat-trick from freshman Brinkley Stansberry in her high school debut.

Chiuchiolo and Stansberry both dished a pair of assists in the affair. 

The first goal of the day came from junior Jersi Wilson, courtesy of Chiuchiolo. Stansberry then went on a scoring rampage, rattling off three before the Shamrocks knew what hit them. Her accomplishment was aided by three different teammates, as Chiuchiolo set up the first, junior Amber Peterson assisted the second, and freshman Reese Tammany dished the third. 

Sophomore AJ Johnson was next, recording her first varsity goal off of a pass from classmate Meredith Johnson to give the Knights five.

Goals six and seven came from the wizard, Chiuchiolo. The sixth was assisted by freshman Mackenzie Henderson, making an impact in her high school debut, and the seventh dish came from sophomore Millie Torre, who is no stranger to setting her teammates up for success, having had eight assists for the Knights in 2023-24. 

Stansberry paid it forward on the eighth and tenth scores, setting Tammany up for a career-first and serving Chiuchiolo her 79th. Gilbert Christian's ninth was all Chiuchiolo, who netted the contest's lone unassisted goal.

The Knights have a big week competing in the Coyote Classic Invitational at Mesa High School on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. The team returns home on December 10th for its home opener, a 4:00pm match against Coolidge.
