Record Pace For Jones and Ford

Knights Bring Four Medals Home From Woodbridge

9/22/2026 12:27:00 PM

(IRVINE, Calif.) Gilbert Christian returned from the 45th Annual Woodbridge Cross Country Classic, one of the nation's largest and most competitive meets, with four medalists and two new program standards in tow.

Senior Asa Jones and sophomore Weston Ford led the Knights in the Green Varsity A boys' race at Irvine's Great Park. Jones placed second overall in 14:41.9, resetting his own GCHS three-mile record, while Ford crossed eighth in 15:00.4 to establish the program's underclassman record.

Jones entered Woodbridge holding the overall GCHS mark of 15:29.9, set during his junior season in 2025. He lowered it by 48 seconds Saturday, while Ford also finished 29.5 seconds under the previous standard.

Ford's performance now ranks No. 2 on the Knights' all-time three-mile list.

The Knights added two medals in the Green Varsity B girls' race. Senior Kodi Bell placed 42nd in 19:56.3, finishing just 6.1 seconds off her three-mile best of 19:50.2. Junior Gabby Spitzer completed the four-medal showing with an 87th-place finish in 21:14.9.

Woodbridge also provided a clearer picture of how the Knights' leading boys compare statewide. A performance list that normalizes three-mile and 5K results placed both Jones and Ford among Arizona's top 30 following the meet.

For comparison purposes, Jones' Woodbridge performance was converted to an estimated 15:15.2 for 5K, while Ford's was listed at approximately 15:34.4. In a separate ranking limited to Arizona runners who competed at Woodbridge, Jones came in at No. 9 and Ford at No. 16.

Those conversions provide context but are not official 5K results; Woodbridge was contested over three miles rather than 5,000 meters. Jones' official 2026 5K best remains his GCHS-record 15:46 from the Western Equinox Invitational, while Ford ran a personal-best 16:01.1 on Sept. 11 at Ojo Rojo.

The squad returns to action Friday night at the Desert Twilight XC Festival (Toka Sticks).
