(GILBERT, Ariz.) The Gilbert Christian Knights didn't just open the 2026 season with a win. They left very little room for anything else.

The Knights scored on offense, on defense, and on special teams Friday night, rolling to a 55-0 road victory over ALA-Vistancia in a season opener that was every bit as dominant as the final score suggests.

The Knights posted 21 points in the first quarter, led 35-0 by the break, held strong in the second half of play, and never let up. GCHS finished with 303 yards of offense while its defense held ALA-Vistancia to negative 29 total yards, including negative 89 yards rushing, and just two first downs.

Senior Camden Gorsline started the scoring with a one-yard touchdown run before classmate quarterback Gabe Caballero connected twice with junior Pierson Scott for 10-yard touchdowns, giving the Knights a 21-0 advantage after one quarter.



Caballero kept dealing in the second.

A 32-yard touchdown strike to senior Kai Ahlman pushed the lead to 28-0 before the defense decided it wanted in on the scoring. Junior Camden High pounced, intercepting a Defenders' pass and taking it 34 yards to the house to give the Knights a 35-0 edge heading into the locker room.  

Gorsline's second touchdown, a nine-yard run in the third quarter, made it 42-0.

And by the fourth, all three phases had officially joined the party.

Junior Luke Solomon broke loose for a 60-yard punt-return touchdown, and senior backup quarterback Ezra Miller later connected with junior Tyler Hoffman for a 28-yard score to cap the scoring.

But as impressive as the 55 was, the zero may have told the bigger story.

Gilbert Christian's defense allowed only 60 passing yards and completely erased the Defenders' ground game, limiting ALA-Vistancia to -89 yards on 27 rushing attempts. GCHS recorded five sacks and repeatedly put the Defenders behind the chains.

Senior linebacker Evan Scott was at the center of it, amassing six solo tackles, five assists, two sacks and five tackles for loss. High added three solo tackles, three assists, a sack, three tackles for loss and the pick-six. Junior Isaiah Painter and Gorsline each logged another sack as the Knights consistently collapsed the backfield.



Special teams added another notable opening-night performance. Senior kicker Logan Brown converted all seven of his PAT attempts and sent five of his eight kickoffs for touchbacks.

Brown joined the football program this summer after finishing last winter as the starting goalkeeper for the Knights' state championship boys soccer team.

Caballero finished an efficient 8-of-11 for 116 yards and three touchdowns in his first start at quarterback. Gorsline led the ground game with 85 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries, while Scott caught four passes for 52 yards and two scores. Ahlman added 40 receiving yards and a touchdown. Miller's fourth-quarter strike to Hoffman gave GCS four passing touchdowns from two quarterbacks.

Now, the Knights come home.

No. 9 Gilbert Christian will host No. 13 Sabino at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 28, in the first KNIGHT OUT of the season.

The Sabercats' 0-1 record offers little indication of the challenge awaiting GCHS. Sabino opened against No. 3 Valley Christian and held the Trojans scoreless for three quarters before ultimately falling 7-0 in a defensive battle.

After scoring 55 in Week 1, Gilbert Christian's offense will get an immediate test against a team that surrendered just seven.

And after allowing zero?

The Knights' defense has set its own standard.
