Duitsman Powers Knights Past Sabercats

(SAN TAN VALLEY, Ariz.) The Gilbert Christian girls basketball team took care of business Monday night, picking up a 49-30 road victory over San Tan Foothills behind a dominant all-around performance from junior Lillie Duitsman.

Duitsman powered the Knights with a 23-point, 11-rebound double-double, adding five steals while shooting 9-of-19 from the field. She set the tone early, scoring Gilbert Christian's first 12 points as the Knights jumped out to a 12-4 lead after one quarter.
 
Gilbert Christian controlled the game throughout, outscoring the Sabercats in all four periods. The Knights continued to dictate the tempo in the second, maintaining an 11-5 scoring edge to take a 23-10 halftime lead. The second half was more of the same as the Knights showcased late season skills with an 11-8 third period effort, and a 15-12 finish in the fourth.
 
Senior Tylee Fox contributed nine points, four rebounds, and two steals, providing steady play on both ends of the floor. Junior Addie Hansen was instrumental on the glass, matching Duitsman with 11 rebounds while dishing out a team-best five assists. Sophomore Adi Bailie scored seven and also pulled down 11 rebounds, giving the Knights three players with double-digit boards in the win.

With the victory, Gilbert Christian improves to 15-4 on the season. The team is currently ranked 13th in the 3A Conference and second in the 3A Metro Region.
 
The Knights return to action tonight on the road against undefeated league leader Payson, with tipoff scheduled for 6:00pm.
 
Senior Night is set for Wednesday, February 5th, at 5:30pm, when Gilbert Christian will honor seniors Tylee Fox, Carli Villegas, and Julie Villegas prior to the final regular-season home game against ALA-Ironwood.
