(GILBERT, Ariz.) Senior Karissa Bailie had a career night on Wednesday, with 13 points and nine rebounds in Gilbert Christian's 70-19 rout of Apache Junction. The Knights got game-highs in scoring from junior Tylee Fox, who recorded 14 points in 13 minutes, and in rebounding from sophomore Addie Hansen, who grabbed 11 boards, eight of which were offensive.
Senior Kaila Aston, who saw the equivalent of one quarter of action, also managed to score 13 in the lopsided affair.
The Knights outrebounded the Prospectors 62-23, logging 27 second chance points in the win. Gilbert Christian's defense forced 19 turnovers on the night, resulting in 21 more points, 10 of which were scored in transition.
Fox and sophomore Mila Russo led the defensive effort with three steals apiece, though nearly every player recorded at least one before the clock ran out.
Five of the Knights' 24 assists were credited to sophomore point guard Alyssa Cervantez. Fox, Hansen and senior Mileigh Allan were next in line, dishing four each as GCHS claimed its seventh victory of the season.
Chipping in eight and six points, respectively, were sophomore Mila Herrejon-Ruiz, and senior Gracie Charpentier. Both players went three-for-five in the contest, with Herrejon-Ruiz sinking a pair from behind the arc.
Apache Junction was held to six or less points in all four quarters of the match-up.
Gilbert Christian is currently ranked 18th among 3A competitors. The Knights will host No. 5 Valley Christian at home on Saturday, January 25th. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30pm.
