(GILBERT, Ariz.) Gilbert Christian football extended its winning streak to four games Friday, ambushing Seton Catholic 41-18 in front of a raucous home crowd. The victory marks the Knights' best 11-man start in program history and showcased a balanced attack with five different players finding the end zone.
Senior quarterback
Caleb Ely was sharp, completing 18 of 23 passes for 248 yards and three touchdowns. As the first half clock ticked down, Ely couldn't find an open receiver, so he tucked the ball and barreled into the end zone himself for a rushing score.
The receiving corps was led by
Kamari Stanbury, who hauled in five passes for 116 yards and two touchdowns. Stanbury now sits tied for fifth statewide in points scored (all divisions) with 42 on the season. Junior
Kai Ahlman added five receptions for 73 yards and a highlight-reel 55-yard touchdown, boosting his season total to 32 points- 15th in Arizona.
On the ground, junior
Camden Gorsline paced the rushing attack with 96 yards on 17 carries, while sophomore
Pierson Scott chipped in 28 yards and a touchdown.
Defensively, the Knights swarmed. Senior
Hyatt Lang delivered five solo tackles- 21 total on the year, positioning the versatile linebacker at 11th among 3A Metro players- along with three tackles for loss and two sacks. Lang's four total sacks place him 40th statewide, ninth in the 3A Conference, and first on the regional leader board. Lang and freshman
Dusty Cook each snagged interceptions in the affair, helping Gilbert Christian limit the Sentinels' second-half surge. Lang's two interceptions rank 20th in 3A, and fifth in the region.
Senior kicker
Noah Cooper converted three of four PATs to round out the GCHS scoring.
The Knights look to keep the momentum rolling this Friday, September 16th, when they host Winslow for Homecoming 2025.
