(QUEEN CREEK, Ariz.) Gilbert Christian put on a clinic Friday, defeating San Tan Foothills 29-0 via mercy rule in 3A Metro baseball action. Senior catcher Tyler Burr led the way, going 4 for 4 with a double, a homerun, and a whopping 7 RBI for the Knights. 
 
Sophomores Dane Coyle and Asher McIntire were also perfect in the affair, combining for five of the Knights' 14 hits, while scoring nine of the team's runs. Coyle, for his part, sent one over the Sabercats' fence, and drove in a trio in the four-inning contest. McIntire reached base on all five of his at bats, walking three times and smashing a pair of doubles for GCHS.
 
Junior Hayden Jensen recorded the win on the mound, striking out three over two scoreless innings before sophomore Cade Opacki took over, completing the shutout with four Ks of his own. 
 
Knights' batters hit .500 (14 for 28) on the day. Gilbert Christian sits at 5-1 on the season, with its lone loss, a 4-3 heartbreaker, coming against regional No. 1 Northwest Christian (6-1) on March 21st. 
 
The Knights have outscored 2025 opponents 95-6 to start the year.
 
Catch GCHS Monday, March 31st as it hosts Payson (4-3) for a regional showdown on Titan Solar Field (GCS Greenfield). The varsity baseball match-up is scheduled to begin at 6:00pm, following the conclusion of the 4:00pm JV game.
