(GILBERT, Ariz.) Girls basketball added two more wins to its 2024-25 tally this week, defeating San Tan Foothills 46-29 on the road Wednesday, and trouncing Scottsdale Christian 58-13 at home on Friday. Sophomore Lillie Duitsman had a breakout week for the Knights, with a 10-point, 15-rebound double-double against the Sabercats, and a 13-point, seven-steal, five-board effort versus the Crusaders.
Gilbert Christian has won six consecutive contests.
It was a round table quest as the Knights notched the widespread victory over SCA, with nearly every player on the roster contributing both points and rebounds in the fabled battle.
Sophomore Alyssa Cervantez had an excellent outing in Friday's match-up, recording nearly as many steals (eight) as she did points (9), while dishing a game-high five assists. In Wednesday's win, Cervantez also shone, scoring 11 and grabbing six off of the glass for the Knights.
GCHS logged 106 total rebounds (47 OREB, 59 DREB) in the two match-ups, doubling its opponent's combined total of 53 (SCA-20, STF-33) on the week. Against Scottsdale Christian, senior Gracie Charpentier led the undertaking with an unbelievable eight boards in 13 minutes, while teammates Addie Hansen, Karissa Bailie and Mileigh Allan compiled six each, augmenting the Knights' impressive effort.
It was more of the same at STF, though Duitsman and senior Kaila Aston did most of the heavy lifting with 28 combined rebounds on the Sabercats' court. Aston joined Duitsman with a double-double in the affair, finishing with 13 boards, and a game-high 14 points.
Gilbert Christian's biggest test is slated for Saturday, when the Knights will host the Payson Longhorns (11-1, 4-0 region) in a 3A Metro battle of the unbeatens. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30pm.
