(QUEEN CREEK, Ariz.) Gilbert Christian played one of its best halves of football on Friday against Crismon, but the Rattlers struck back in the second period to overtake the Knights 30-21. Junior linebacker Hyatt Lang amassed 12 total tackles in the affair, seven of which were solo, and two that pushed CHS's offense back for loss. Lang also blocked a pair of extra point attempts for GCHS in the match-up.
The Knights' 2024 record sits at 2-3 overall, following the defeat.
"We lost a close game against Crismon despite playing very well in the first half and leading at the break," Head Coach John Carlson said. "Sam Webb returned their first kickoff 93 yards for a touchdown, with help from excellent blocking by our return team. Tyler Burr and Caleb Ely were synced up again, and connected for a long catch and run which put us up 21-3. Brody Moore was tremendous with his kickoffs and managed to make big plays on both sides of the ball tonight. Hyatt was a wrecking machine, with so many high-effort plays on defense for us. I thought that our offensive and defensive linemen were tough as nails, per usual in this game."
Burr finished the contest with 199 passing yards, completing 12-of-23 attempts. His main target was Ely, who logged 135 yards on four receptions. Moore was next in line for the Knights' receivers, catching two for 46 yards against the Rattlers.

Rushing for 112 yards on 14 carries was Webb. The Knights' senior captain barreled through and sped around the Crismon defense, finishing the contest with 210 all-purpose yards, and two touchdowns.

Gilbert Christian registered 69 tackles in the contest. Sophomore Malachi Ahlman, who had a break-out offensive game last week, was a defensive menace on the field in Friday's match-up, stockpiling a season-high nine tackles. Moore and sophomore Evan Scott contributed eight apiece, while sophomore Kasen Reed posted seven of his own for the Knights.

Fountain Hills (2-3) is next on the schedule for GCHS. The Knights will host the Falcons for Homecoming on September 27th (7:00pm).
