(GILBERT, Ariz.) Gilbert Christian showed up ready to compete on Friday against Kingman (3-1), dropping a season-high 37 points on the Bulldogs in 3A football action. Senior Sam Webb was unstoppable in the affair, rushing for 197 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Prior to the September 13th contest, Kingman was undefeated and averaging nearly 44 points per game. The Knights' defense held the Bulldogs to one score, and managed to stop the lone two-point conversion try.

GCHS quarterback senior Tyler Burr threw for 154 yards in the big win, hitting almost 50 percent of his targets. Sophomore Malachi Ahlman had a breakout evening on offense, pulling down two in the endzone at wide receiver for the Knights. Burr's third TD toss was to his favorite target, junior Caleb Ely, who leads Gilbert Christian in receiving yards (59.5 yds/pg) and touchdowns (4) this season.

Newcomer Brody Moore continued to impress all over the field. The first-year football player who is a senior at GCHS, logged 60 receiving yards, nailed four extra point tries, hit a 32-yard field goal, amassed five tackles as well as a tackle for loss, and collected the Knights' sole interception of the night.

Defensively, the Knights amped up the pressure, swarming the Bulldogs to record a whopping 76 tackles. Senior Colton Rogers led the way, bringing down 13 total, while sophomore Evan Scott and junior Hyatt Lang tallied 11 tackle assists apiece. Freshman Pierson Scott was next in line, following in his brother's footsteps to log seven of his own, including a tackle for loss. Pierson was also the top-individual playmaker on defense, with his five solo tackles. Lang, E. Scott, and freshman Camden High, each managed four solo bringdowns for the Knights in the win.

Rogers and Lang rank third and eighth statewide (any conference) for total tackles in 2024.

With the 37-6 win, the Knights move to 2-2 on the year.

Gilbert Christian is on the road again this Friday, for a 7:00pm showdown with Crismon (1-3). Next week, on September 27th, the Knights will host Fountain Hills for Homecoming (7:00pm).
