12/4/2024 12:50:00 PM

(GILBERT, Ariz.) Gilbert Christian won four invitational contests over the holiday weekend in the Black Friday Girls' Basketball Classic, defeating Skyline (33-22), West Point (37-29), Fairfax (41-33) and Casa Grande (41-16), but fell 35-33 at home on Tuesday to Seton Catholic.

Senior Kaila Aston led the Knights' scoring effort at the Black Friday Classic, averaging 14.5 points per game, while maintaining a 9.3 rebound-average through four games. Her best game came against Fairfax, where she recorded a team-high 18 points, though she also logged a 14-point, 11-rebound double-double versus West Point.

Averaging 6.8 ppg over the weekend, was Addie Hansen. The sophomore forward went to work on the glass, averaging eight boards in the tournament for GCHS. In the West Point win, Hansen scored 12 on 6-of-13 shooting to tie Aston for the top-mark. She also looked strong in the Seton contest, where she tallied seven points in the Knights' loss.

Junior Tylee Fox was a standout on the floor against the Sentinels with a squad-high 12 points. She had a great game against Casa Grande on Saturday, with 11 points, four rebounds, two steals and an assist in 31 minutes of action.

"The Seton Catholic game was an exciting back-and-forth game that came down to the final seconds," Head Coach Mark Duitsman said. "The Sentinels held on to win, but needed to fight off our late run to do so. I want to give a shout-out to Mila Russo, Kaila Aston, and Gracie Charpentier for some special defensive efforts that don't always show up in the statistics."

Invitational games are not counted toward the team's overall record, though the statistics are computed toward individual averages.

The Knights (0-3) are back in action at home on Thursday, December 6th against Pusch Ridge (2-0). Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00pm.
