Girls' Hoops Nabs Home Win

Knights Defeat Bourgade Catholic

(GILBERT, Ariz.) A strong team effort propelled Gilbert Christian girls' basketball past Bourgade Catholic 53-18 in 3A Metro Region play Tuesday. The Knights played tenacious defense in the affair, garnering 22 steals and 23 deflections, while forcing 33 Golden Eagles' turnovers. Senior Kaila Aston's 15-point, 13-rebound double-double led the offensive charge, though her Herculean effort was bolstered by five different players scoring five or more points for GCHS.

 

Junior guard Tylee Fox did it all in Tuesday's win, compiling nine points, five steals, four rebounds, and three assists in 16 minutes of floor time against the Golden Eagles. Her five steals were matched by sophomore teammate Alyssa Cervantez, whose versatile game included two points, five boards, and three dishes of her own. 

 

Scoring seven points apiece were sophomores Lillie Duitsman and Mila Russo. Russo's stat line contained three steals, while Duitsman plucked four off the glass, and earned the top-spot in the assist-column with five dimes.

Addie Hansen's eight rebounds, six points and two steals were hard to miss, as the sophomore playmaker made an impact on both sides of the ball, and senior Karissa Bailie had a breakout night for the Knights, logging five points, four rebounds and a steal in 11 minutes of action.

Gilbert Christian has one game remaining on the 2024 schedule, a December 13th match-up with Thatcher at Payson High School. The contest is part of the Holiday Hoops Invitational and will not count toward the Knights' overall record. Tip-off is slated for 10:00am.
