(WADDELL, Ariz.) Gilbert Christian girls' basketball held one of Arizona's top-players well-below her scoring average on Tuesday, but the Knights were ultimately outmatched by a veteran ALA-West Foothills' squad, taking a tough 62-29 loss on the road.
"Mila Russo and Alyssa Cervantez did a great job defending their best player," Head Coach Mark Duitsman said. "We really battled for rebounds against their bigger lineup. Our staff is very proud of the effort that our team put forth in this game."
Senior Kaila Aston led the Knights' effort, posting 10 points, five rebounds, two blocks, and two steals in the contest. She was lights out from the charity stripe, sinking all four of her attempts.
Scoring eight points, and leading the team with seven boards was sophomore guard Lillie Duitsman. Duitsman nailed a pair from beyond the arc, knocking down a third of her tries, to bolster the Knights' total.
Sophomore Addie Hansen's defensive awareness aided her cause on the day as she compiled a team-best four steals, and junior Tylee Fox managed her own top-mark, dishing four assists to lead GCHS.
Gilbert Christian is scheduled to compete in four invitational games over the holiday weekend. The Knights' first game, against Skyline, is slated for 11:00am. Both Friday contests will be played in the Higley High School main gymnasium.
