(TUCSON, Ariz.) Gilbert Christian outrebounded Sabino in the 2024-25 opener on Thursday, but struggled to find a scoring rhythm, falling to the Sabercats 49-20 on the road. The Knights were led by junior guard Tylee Fox, who posted seven points, five rebounds, a steal and a block in the loss.
"This was a tough Sabino team," Head Coach Mark Duitsman said. "Our team fought through some early-season turnovers and I thought we had some good moments. In the end, Sabino's shooting was too much for us to overcome."
Senior Kaila Aston logged nearly a third of the Knights' rebounds, grabbing a team-high nine, while adding three points, an assist, a block, and a steal in the contest.
Three sophomores, Lillie Duitsman, Addie Hansen, and Alyssa Cervantex, managed four boards apiece in the affair, and senior Gracie Charpentier added three more to Gilbert Christian's total.
Hansen and Charpentier chipped in four points each, and Duitsman accounted for the squad's final bucket, with two.
Sabino was led by sophomore Jayda Haley's 19 points. The Sabercats move to 2-0 with the win.
GCHS drops to 0-1 after the loss. The Knights travel to ALA-West Foothills on Tuesday, November 26th for a 5:30pm match-up against the Guardians.
