(GILBERT, Ariz.) No. 1 Gilbert Christian extended its winning streak to 13 matches with a resounding 4-1 victory over Valley Christian in beach volleyball action on Monday afternoon. The win marks the first time in the program's six-year history that the Knights have defeated the Trojans on the sand.
Valley's Bella Burrus and Morgan Hackett claimed the matches' opening point following a competitive three-set (16-21, 21-10, 15-13) battle at No. 5 over Gilbert Christian's
Selah Hommel and
Ashley Gast.
From there, however, the Knights cruised, picking up four-straight victories to remain unbeaten in 2025 play.
Senior
Kaila Aston and freshman
Shay Loth teamed up at number four, using Loth's defensive prowess and Aston's presence at the net to take down their Trojan counterparts in straight sets (21-17, 21-18).
In the three's showdown, freshman
Liv Johnson and
Sidney Loth bested Elyse Wolf and Makenna Bizzack (21-16, 21-18), in a contest that featured several unbelievable lay-out gets from Loth, and strategic put-aways from Johnson.
The next match-up was more of the same, as Gilbert Christian's synergistic two's duo, junior
Tylee Fox and sophomore
Sienna Cathey, eclipsed Valley seniors Aubrey Miller and Jasmine Garcia 21-16, 21-16 to remain undefeated on the year.
The final pairing, between junior
Alexia Heyn and
Lillie Duitsman and the Trojan's number one challengers Haydyn Gerard and Emma Smith, was more of an exclamation point than it was competitive as the Knights closed the day with an emphatic 21-16, 21-6 victory.
Duitsman and Heyn have been dominant in Gilbert Christian's top-slot this season, racking up 13-consecutive two-set wins.
GCHS has one match remaining on its regular season schedule, an April 16th match at sectional opponent Seton Catholic (10-3). The Knights are slated to take the sand at 4:00pm.
