(QUEEN CREEK, Ariz.) Volleyball won a huge regional match on the road at Benjamin Franklin on Friday, topping the Chargers in five sets (23-25, 25-17, 25-18, 20-25, 15-13) to move to 5-2 on the year. Defense was key for the Knights, who were led by junior libero Michelle Lopez's 17 digs.
Lopez also recorded a team-best four aces in the victory.
"We did a great job not letting the ball drop on defense," Head Coach Alyssa Misuraca said. "I thought our liberos and defensive specialists were excellent tonight. Our middles, Kaila Aston and Kaedra Lloyd, also really impressed me with how they defended the net."
Aston had the Chargers' hitters reeling, posting nine total blocks in the affair, two of which were solo.
Making the magic happen for the Knights' hitters was setter Rio Taylor who dished 15 assists, adding to her generous senior season tally.
Freshman Lillie Duitsman was accurate offensively for Gilbert Christian, hitting a clutch .324 in the hard-fought win.
The Knights take a very brief rest and head to Tucson for a 1:00pm match-up with Pusch Ridge on Saturday, September 16th.
