Heyn Strikes Hard in Valley Loss

Knights Fall to Undefeated Trojans

(PHOENIX) Gilbert Christian volleyball squared off against Valley Christian in a special 'Dig for the Cure' match on Saturday at Grand Canyon University Arena. The Knights looked strong and led the Trojans early in the first two sets, but struggled to close out their efforts as they fell 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-11).

Valley maintains its undefeated streak, moving to 15-0 with the win. GCHS moves to 9-7 overall with the loss.

Sophomore Alexia Heyn had a breakout performance on the big stage, emerging as the Knights' offensive spark with a team-best nine kills on the day. She hit aggressively, managing to put down .398 of her attempts for Gilbert Christian.

"I was really impressed with Alex and the fire and intensity that she brought to the court," Head Coach Alyssa Misuraca said. "We are going to focus on serve receive this week, to ensure that we can set up our offense consistently and stay aggressive."

Defensively, freshman Lillie Duitsman was everywhere, picking up 11 digs to lead the Knights. Junior Kaila Aston maintained her threatening reputation at the net, with a solo block and four block assists in the contest.

Junior Emma Caraveo was tops for the squad in assists, recording 14 in two sets of play.

Monday is the final regular season match of the year for Gilbert Christian. All of the Knights' fall sports seniors will be honored prior to the 6:00pm contest. The Globe Tigers sit at 3-10 overall, and are the current 8th-place team in the 3A South Central Region.
